Hi everyone,

I feel compelled to begin posting problems that happen to me instead of always mooching of other posts.

Last week i got the new Hp mini 1000, i formated the drive and put Ubuntu 8.10 on to it and everything is running smooth as butter especially with an incoming extra gig (2gigs total) of ram on its way, anyways.
I was notified to update i did so accordingly and upon restarting i get a blank screen, I get a desktop screen image but no login ( a desktop that is empty, no icons, bars etc). This is all pre-login. The mouse is there and i can move it around, just cannot do anything with it. :(
On a previous post (way old 2005 post) i found to try Ctrl Alt F1 and i can get into that screen but i have no clue what to do from there and i am completely stuck. ](*,)
I am a complete newbie when it comes to linux in general.

Any help, I would be most grateful for [-o<
Warm regards everyone!
