Have installed Unbuntu in the past no problem on dual boot with XP.

This time I have a blank Home built PC AMD Athlon 900Mhz, 384MB RAM, 4GB HD (Formatted on a XP PC - NTFS blank) plus CD & DVD readers, VGA monitor 1024x768. Boot from CD using Unbuntu CD ISO it finds CD OK, starts to run install then after a few mins of Unbuntu screen displaying I get blank screen & cursor top left. Have run CD check & all files OK. Do I need to format disc in any spl. way? David

At the initial screen when you boot from the LiveCD, press F4 and use the safe graphic mode to boot it. Otherwise, you can always try the alternate CD to install Ubuntu on your machine.

I've had a very similar problem.

After going nuts for a couple of weeks I discovered that it just wouldn't boot on my CD...

So, if you don't have an extra CD reader, try installing it on a usb drive/key and then install from there ;)
