Just installed Ubuntu Studio 8.10 and it only boots to the PC name log in; i.e. <name of PC> log in: . I can not get it to boot to GUI. At start up first line on screen is; 'MP-BIOS BUG 8254 Timer not connected to...' I have found some common fixes for this, actually repaired it with 7.04. With Studio 8.10 I can't get into the GRUB menu to edit it. At the command line it states that it does not recognize the GEDIT command. Help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to edit menu.lst with nano? Or with gedit after booting a live CD?

I can now boot to menu and select which kernel version then it boots to command line, asks for log in and password which is recognized but stays at DOS type full screen command line. I cab get to edit menu but do not know waht to edit. Any ideas? Thanks
