I have a friends laptop that wont boot from USB, and has no cd drive and Im trying to install linux on it. I have a usb adapter which I hooked up to his hdd and installed linux on but grub was installed on my hdd and not the external, so I used mandriva 09' and installed that to his hdd and installed grub to his hdd as well and put it back into his laptop and it says invalid partition error.
Can someone please help me to install ubuntu onto an external drive and then put the external drive into the laptop and get it to boot?
Also, my laptop uses SATA and his uses IDE to I cant just pop it into mine and install it.
