on laptops you have to choose in the bios how much ram is given to your gfx card, but given that the linux can have its avalible memory changed when its live, is it possible to change the available memory to the gfx card without a reboot? for example most of the time im running firefox & ktorrent and need as much ram as i can get, but when i boot up a game a gfx card with more than 32bit ram is going to be nice!

if so, how do i do this? if not why is it not possible?

I don't 'think' you can as this is something done by the bios and not the OS.

How much ram do you have? At some point more gpu ram does not really increase performance.

I thought that might be the case, but a lot of bios stuff is legacy and that is why coreboot works right?

If both the graphics card and the systems memory are under your controll why wouldn't it be possible? im more interested in the concept, but i have about 1.5G of mem, usage is usually goes up to a gig and can even use swap when im doing very intensive stuff, but when i play games id quite like to enable 512m for gfx and 1G for main without having to reboot
