Excuse my bad english please.

Hi to all Ubuntu and GNU/Linux users, I'm a (not at all) Linux-noob who wants to build a home server with the following features:
- File server (NFS, Samba)
- SSH server (with X tunneling)
- VNC server
- Small Apache server for testing purposes

PC Specs:
Pentium4 @ 2.8 Ghz
512 MB DDR333 RAM
ASRock P4VM800
80GB HDD + 250GB HDD

So here's the deal:
HDD 80GB has 2 partitons, both NTFS, with WinXP SP2 installed
HDD 250GB has 1 partition NTFS for file storage

I want dual-boot with Ubuntu 8.10, my plan is to resize the second drive for it to have 30GB free and install Ubuntu right there, what I'm asking is:

1. What installation of Ubuntu should I use? Server or Alternate? or should I just install Xubuntu?

2. I can't reformat any drive so...regarding disk performance I'm worried about NTFS-3G user-space driver since I need strong file-system performance (software installing, burning, streaming across de network and upgrading to Gigabit), maybe install the linux-ntfs driver which is built into kernel?

What are your thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
