I am currently running on Ubuntu 8.04.2
How can I install KDE 4.2 on Hardy? Will the instructions on kubuntu.org for Intrepid work for Hardy as well??

No way, unless you are ready to compile everything from sources.
In my opinion this is a shame: 8.04 is supposed to be LTS and KDE v4 is mainstream release.
I tried already v4.0 (experimental on Hardy) and v4.1 (under Intrepid) with no luck: they are still too immature for every day usage.
I'll keep using 8.04 ... or switch to a different distro.

Yes, it's a shame. I'm very disappointed and was even thinking of switching to another distro. In the hardy repos are unstable and old KDE 4.x packages and this sucks!
