I have a laptop operating on an ubuntu live cd that is working with no changes to the computer.

This laptop was running windows and crashed.
I would like to backup the hard drive which the computer doesn't see and install ubuntu to the laptop.
It would really help if I could see the picture files still on the lost hard drive before I install.
I can only see the "filesystem" and the "cd drive" the live disk is operating on in the "places---->computer" area of ubuntu.

Thank you in advance for your advice :D!!!!!!!!!

Take a look at this page, this is a rescue cd you can download/burn that may allow you to access the drive, maybe. Not sure it will to be honest but I have used this and also puppy linux in the past to access bad drives.

Good luck!
