I Use Vimperator, and thus most of firefoxes UI is completely and utterly useless. However, due to the lack of folder support in Vimperators bookmark display, I still need the bookmarks menu, which results in needing 2 bars, the tab bar and menu bar, with a massive gap next to it.

What I was wondering is if it is possible to move the tab bar into the huge gap next to the 'menus' button?

I think the extensions that hide the menu bar allow you to recall it with a hot key.

I think your best option would be to completely hide your menu bar, then use a hot key to reveal it when you need to navigate to your bookmark menu.

I don't know what Vimperator is but I prefer to view bookmarks in a sidebar, they're more accessible that way than in a menu. It's Ctrl+B to show/hide the bookmarks sidebar in standard Firefox.

Im not a fan of the sidebar, its a nightmare to control without a mouse.

What I want to know is why the tab bar isn't just a regular movable bar item like the address/search bars.

I don't understand your problem ?
Why don't you move the bookmarks up next to the menubar?

EDIT:
Maybe this could be usefull?

He doesn't want a separate menubar/tabbar at all. He wants the tab bar and menu bar to be on the same line.

Like I said earlier, your best bet is to completely hide the menu bar. It really serves no purpose if you're using shortcuts. You can hide it, then make it visible when you hit a keyboard shortcut. Once your command is executed it will go back to it's hidden state.
