So I have been running ubuntu off and on for a couple of weeks now. The other day I booted into it and noticed the standard network manager that you usually find in the upper left hand corner was gone. Now my computer does not access the wifi my school has or in my apartment. How can I get the network manager back and also how can I access the network without it

Right click on the panel > add to panel , choose network monitor and add it.

I did that and I got a different one than the one that came with the operating system. This one does not show the networks that are available in the area also it was allowing me to access the wifi networks for a while then decide to stop working also.

Hi. You probably removed the 'Notification Area' applet; follow the instructions in the post above and add the Notification Area again. The Network Monitor is a different applet.
