Having recently completed an install of 8.04 upgraded to 8.10 on a combined backend / frontend. All was sweet until I had some GDM issues from fiddling in the Login Manager ... which resulted in autologin giving authentication failure.
Used Ctl/Alt/F1 to login to the system, stop GDM, StartX and eventually was able to get back to the Login Manager and re-anable the auto login - all back to normal - BUT no sound. The machine multiboots and I was able to confirm sound card works under XP... so I know the answer lies somewhere in what I have done within the ubuntu environment. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to basically reinstall the audio bits under 8.10. thanks, thanks - and thanks
