View Full Version : [ubuntu] Gnome not starting

Don't know exactly what happened, but Gnome is not starting on my laptop. I was adding/removing applications using Synaptic when the pc crashed, and after the reboot the problem begun.
I can see login screen, enter username and password, but after that the system just loads desktop background with no toolbars nor icons.

I can move the cursor, I see it, and if right-click, I see the contextual menu. I think it is smothing resolution-related (max laptop resolution 1024x768) but don't know what config file I need to edit to try to fix this.
Could anyone help?

I was able to set screen resolution (editing the menu.lst file) but I still can't see anything on my desktop (no icons, no toolbars, no actions...).
There is a way to re-install gnome?
