start up failure due to some wicked malware

alright heres the story i got this old comp from a buddy of mine cause he got some trojans and it annihilated his system. the extent of the problem was that when he booted up the mouse curser would appear on a blank background and the graphic interface would not load.

so i took the computer and installed ubunto on it hoping to fix the issue. but i've been having the same problem with the graphic interface not loading. does anybody here have the knowledge to tell me what the issue here is.

What's the spec of that machine and which release did you install on it?

Post your specs. How much memory do you have? Graphics?
I'd advice tu Dban your drive if other requirements are met.
