Just background & mouse cursor in install..

Hi,

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on a machine and when I boot into either the installation or the live cd, I get the background image and the mouse cursor works but I never seem to get anything else on the screen.

Is this a known problem or is there anything else I can try?

It's got an Intel E8200 (Core 2) chip, 3GB RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS plus a Radeon 9250 video card in and 3 monitors.

Most people seem to have enough issue with getting one proprietary video card to work.

Can you get rid of the Radeon card and try the liveCD. Or vice-versa, get rid of geForce card and try the CD.

It did the same without the Radeon but worked without the Nvidea!
