Help! I am trying to get the Compiz desktop to work. I even went back and loaded a fresh install of UBUNTU 8.10-desktop-i386.iso. It is clean as I have only downloaded the updates which pop up when I rebooted. Then I followed the UBUNTU https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompositeManager/CompizFusion sheet. I get the following message:

http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=101151&stc=1&d=1233018404

(Hope I did the attachment OK!!)

It seems to be telling me I need Software Rasterizer and Xgl, but I can't find any resources for them.

Any suggestions?

PC: HP Pavillion Slimline s3521p (AMD Athlon X2)
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE
Ubuntu with GNOME desktop

Thanks!

Ron

what happens when you type "ccsm" in a terminal window?

you should get the compiz-fusion setting manager
my system is working OK, but I have the same issue as you if I type "compiz"

I can open the manager with CCSM or by just using "System", "Preferences", Compiz....

Maybe I haven't made the right selections. The only thing that works is that when I grab a top corner, I can "bend" the page down. I want to get the "Cube" and all the goodies. This looks like a killer app if I can just get it to work.

Sounds like you've got it installed (Compiz), you just need to learn how to configure the plugins.

See this tutorial. Just skip down to where it starts talking about configuring the Desktop Cube and what not, since you already have CCSM installed.

Thanks for the link Therion!! I have it working now. Options, options, options. Even found the Compiz-Switch which is nice. Thanks again!
