I am new to unbuntu and am trying to do a fresh install on my desktop. Everything goes fine untill the install progress reaches about 80%. At this time the screen begins to flicker showing a battery check screen before going to the blue screen that says the display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 sec. I read elswhere to try installing in the safe graphics mode and ended with the same results.

I am using the 64 bit Unbuntu version from the web site. I am seeing that ATI cards are part of the problem and I have the x1900. Also saw that you can try the acpi=off boot option before starting the instal but it looked like that didnt work for the problem.

Thanks for any help

Old issue and I believe this has been fixed in all the new install cds of ubuntu. The problem was that the screen saver was coming on during the install and dumped the error. So if you have this problem I believe you just need to wiggle the mouse a little throughout the install.
