I have noticed that I have several kernel versions in my boot menu and they all are labeled "-generic".

What exactly does that mean? I am not having any issues but I am wondering if there is a kernel version I should be using instead of this "-generic" kernel.

I am just checking - unless there is some compelling reason (enhanced performance or something like that) I don't think I want to change and risk causing problems to my setup. As I said, I am not having any issues.

That "-generic" label is completely normal. In fact, if the kernel with the most recent version number works well, you can safely uninstall files corresponding to the earlier version number using synaptic (but NOT those corresponding to the most recent version number that you are successfully using).

I'm sorry I cannot provide a more detailed explanation as to WHY it is called generic.

Cheers!
