Dear buddies,

I have recently downloaded linux kernel 2.6.28.1 tar file,is it possible to install for ubuntu 8.1 intriped 64 bit? if possible could you tell me how?.Moreover,I dont know abcd of how to install tar.bz2 files.

If you're not sure how to install from source, then honestly, I don't think it would be a great idea to try and compile and install your own kernel.

I believe 2.6.28 is in the next version of Ubuntu (9.04) which is released in April if you can wait that long ;)

Please dont try to install the linux kernel without knowing the perfect steps, it may crash your system if you fail to compile the kernel properly. wait for the online update to install itself.
