Have any of you seen this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1050390) thread? Logically somebody here should be best able to help.

Here's the essence of his first post.
I am homeless and stranded with an old laptop, as I write the book that is going to save the world.

I didn't upgrade to 7.10, because it didn't give me any sound and I indulged in some CD's and MP3 for a while, and so I didn't bother to ugrade to 8.04 or 8.10, because I was okay with 7.04. then, something happened and I had to re-install. When I re-installed 7.04 I could not recover my favorite applications from the repositories - They didn't tell me that was going to happen.

So, please, somebody help me out with a CD of Ubuntu. I will pay for costs and gratuities.[-o<

I don't live in NYC, so maybe I don't belong in this subforum, but maybe someone could help this guy out besides just giving him a CD. Just a thought.

I read the whole thread and it's really hard for me to tell if it's a troll post or not. Why can't the guy finish his book on whatever distro he has now, be it windows, linux or whatever? I feel compelled to try to help him get a cd, but I'm not understanding why he needs it if his laptop already has something on it?

I am smelling Troll TBH. This is the line that gets me:

Maybe it's just me.

Not to make this thread even more off-topic but that's the exact image that came to mind when I read the thread title.

I think there is an explanation - by the time he reinstalled 7.04, it was already end of lifed and the repositories had been moved, thus he couldn't apt-get the stuff he needed.
