I was recommended to this site by a friend.
I am very interested in learning more about Linux and trying to read up now about how to install Ubuntu on my system.

Sometimes linux is not compatible with certain hardware and making those work might take some derring-do, so I would suggest downloading a live cd image, burining it to cd. Live cd allows you experience the software without installing it. Once you have the live cd, pop it in and boot off of it (the cd). If you like what you see and your hardware works fine on the target machine, then download and burn a install cd and and you should be ready to go.

Just remember (something a lot of people forget) "linux is not windows" : an interesting article about that is posted here :http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=58017
That sould help you approach linux with tht eright frame of mind. Its just different and might need some getting used to.

I had some trouble opening it. :(
The text shows up as a bunch of little circles.
