I had installed ubuntu 8.04 using window installation mode and then upgraded it to 8.10.
recently i saw a file .fuse_hiddenxxxxxxxx(x for some numbers) of size 694 MB.
I believe that this file was formed when I did the window installation from CD and is not needed anymore .
can i safely delete this file ???

I was wondering what these files are too, found the answer in this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=550145&highlight=fuse_hidden

I have a drive mounted remotely using sshfs and sometimes see this if I have a gedit window still open with the file and I've deleted the file in a terminal.

I ran into a .fuse_hidden000002c600000003 file today when attempting to convert an IMG file to a DVD so that it might be burned to DVD media:

$ ls -alsF
REPORTS:
3470176 -rwxrwxrwx 1 name name 3553460224 2012-01-13 08:42 .fuse_hidden000002c600000003*
3471244 -rwxrwxrwx 1 name name 3554551808 2012-01-13 08:55 movie.iso*

Running the "list open files" command revealed the program purportedly holding the lock to the reputed deleted file:

$ lsof .fuse_hidden000002c600000003
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
mencoder 13835 name 3r REG 8,33 3553460224 22267 .fuse_hidden000002c600000003

Meanwhile, I am attempting to create an ISO image out of the .fuse_hidden_hex file using DeVeDe which seems to recognize the file (time will tell).
