Hi, I tried to install the latest version of Ubuntu and it failed so i tried various older versions going back to 6.06 but for the newer versions (newer than 7.10) my laptop freezes. For Versions of Ubuntu older than that I get almost the same problem all the time. It says:-

"Failed to start the X-Server. (Your graphical interface). It is likely it was not setup correctly. Would you like to view the X-Server output to diagnose the problem?
"

What could be wrong., I have Windows 7 installed

What is the spec of your machine? At the initial screen when you boot from the LiveCD, press F4 and pick the safe graphic mode. See if X server starts on your laptop.

I have a Dell 1490 wireless card on that and a 250 GB HDD. Ubuntu used to work when I installed it on the same laptop with XP
