If i have a LiveCD running off a 32GB USB stick, I apply package updates and then I do the install onto a computer's hard drive, will it come with all the package updates or will it be just as if I had installed from a clean LiveCD?

Any package updates performed while running a "Live" session will not be persistent.

You can create your own "LiveCD" by using something like Remastersys or you could download Super Ubuntu (the install images are updated monthly (or thereabouts)) since those install discs will have most of the updates on them already.

Ubuntu Ultimate looks really interesting. I might be wrong but it seems like they added a bunch of stuff for gaming.

I'm not referring to Ultimate Edition... I'm referring to Super Ubuntu. Did you look at the link I gave you in my previous post?

Here's another that specs out exactly what is included: http://hacktolive.org/wiki/Super_Ubuntu

Nothing specific to gaming that I see. Codecs and multi-media support mainly (Java, Flash, VLC Player, etc.).

They tack on some additional applications (CCSM for Compiz, Startup Manager, GPartEd, etc.) but nothing that strikes me as illogical.

Great! Thanks!

My pleasure.

I hand out a LOT of Super Ubuntu CD's because SU contains all the non-free codecs that people are going to want/need/expect and is reasonably current with the official updates.
