I am looking for a primitive version of linux...
i dont want it to have gnome or anything... just the terminal and linux commands that installs on the harddrive...

i dont have a cd drive so i need to find the smallest version possible... any ideas?

"Just a terminal" ? Is just a virtual console also OK ?

Do you have usb-ports on it ?
Then you can check both Puppy Linux and DSL.

It has usb 1.0 i think... so it should work...
I kinda want to have the terminal window installed>_<
now its totally blank i think it needs to be in boot disk form...

i have a usb zip drive... so maybe up to 100mb is ok

It's not exactly old but the slax "frodo" edition has no gui. Just drivers and bash.

You can also install whatever *.mo modules you'd like to use as with slax's other versions of course.

You could also give the Ubuntu Mini.iso (http://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD) a try and just install the CLI.

Depending on how primitive you want... Freesco (http://www.freesco.org/) is a single-floppy router that can be hard-drive installed, and has optional packages like Samba.
