I've installed Kubuntu 8.10 in my intel 2.24Ghz pc with 256Mb RAM. The installation was done perfectly(through direct cd install)...but when i'm running my installed system i face a problem. The logon screen appears,I put my logon details, then a logo of a hard disk comes...and there it hangs.I had installed ubuntu Gutsy before but i never had this problem.I've a 300Mb Swap as well....when i try to use live cd it also hangs in that same area. But i found no problems with the cd with CHECK DISK.Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

what video card you have, you may need to disable desktop effects

Now listen to this. I've clicked that hard disk icon and the nice desktop came. But after 30 secs everything on desktop hangs. I was just able to open the main menu but couldn't start any applications. So it's impossible to reduce desktop effects at all. Then i took the cd to my friends house who has 512Mb RAM. Surprisingly, it hanged again. I couldn't even install kubuntu on his pc!!!!!!!!Please help.
