I am still very green when it comes to Ubuntu which I love learning about.

I currently have: Transmission 1.34 (6778 ) and want to upgrade to either the 1.42 or the 1.50 Beta.

Transmission is by FAR AND AWAY the best(easiest and most fun) Torrent tool I have ever used.

The only catch is that when its running it frequently crashes my Wireless internet adapter connection after a while(which runs fine otherwise), and forces me to reboot my PC. I hope it will rectify this issue, if not no huge biggie. Just so I have a current version.

So if somebody could give me the short and sweet, step-by-step(noob answer) to this I would be grateful. I went to the transmissionbt webpage and the instructions were confusing to me probably because I am a noob.

Here is what I have tried since downloading the tar.bz2:

eddie@xxxxxx:~/Desktop/transmission-1.42$ ./configure -q && make -s
appending configuration tag "CXX" to libtool
appending configuration tag "F77" to libtool
configure: error: Cannot locate ssl
eddie@xxxxxx:~/Desktop/transmission-1.42$

I get that cannot locate ssl error.
