Can ant one tell me where can i get debian packages for ubuntu 8.10(compatible).
i tried www.getdeb.net but many packages found there are not compatible for 8.10.

Make sure you click here (http://www.getdeb.net/distro_select.php) to select your version of Ubuntu. This way, the site will only show compatible packages.

Have you enabled universe and multiverse in your "software sources"?

You should have access to a huge number of programs after doing these things.

I don't know if I understand your question, but you can install / remove software with the official Ubuntu packages with basically two applications:
- apt-get (console)
- Synaptic (GUI)

Is better to use the repository packages instead of download the ones over internet. Are you in need to install one especific software, and you can't find it?
