View Full Version : [ubuntu] how to install MIC and WEB built in on VAIO

Hello!
I'm running linux with almost any problem in my sony vaio VGN-FZ298 CE.
But something really important is bugging me: the built in mic and web cam. This is really important for me and it is not working.
Any idea on how to make it works properly?

Please help ne! ;)

Can you post the output to

lsusb from a terminal (Applications>Accessories>Terminal) so we can see which mac and model your cam is.

Have you tried using easycam (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EasyCam)?

I just installed it but still have the same problem. No image...
Have the same problem with the mic. I tryed to use the "sound recorder" but it seems that the built in microphone doesn't respond...

Any other suggestion?

By the way, maybe helps, I'm using ubuntu 64 bits.

What version of Ubuntu are you using? eg. Intrepid, hardy, gusty etc...

I'm using 7.04, that's gusty i think....
Now when I plug the mic into the jacket it works. But I'm not using the built in mic. In addition, the webcam is working now in skype even when it's not working with the software that you told me. The problem is that the image is totally green, I can barely see my face.
Any idea to solve these two problems?

I don't know how to solve this.
Now my webcam is working, but i need to use my built in mic!!!

I had a similar problem after run a update, my webcam stopped working for a long time...... now it is working ..... thanks Partyboi2

nikillo, my micro already was working so i don't have much to say about that... just did you review volumen master control?.... take a look of switches tab and verify that internal mic check box is selected ... in my case some times this changes automaticaly to other check box.
