While reconfiguring a computer at work I noticed that there were nvidia drivers available for linux. In a stroke of brilliance I decided to fix something that wasn't broken, and after installing this on my ubuntu box, a great many things have hit the fan. When I log on, ubuntu informs me that it is running in low graphics mode because my monitor and driver can't be found. I've tried telling it my resolution and video card but it still runs in 640x480 which I am currently typing this message in. I've been trying to figure out how to either make this work or go back to using the ubuntu drivers, neither of which have worked. I've looked on the nvidia forums but they only have information regarding 177.-something driver, and I've just installed the 180.-something driver.

I'm hoping this will be a simple xorg.conf reconfiguration but I don't know how to do this, I would really appreciate some help! I'm running a Hanns-G LCD 1680x1050 flatscreen with an Nvidia GeForce 6600 card.

Here's my xorg.conf:

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by failsafeDexconf, using
# values from the debconf database and some overrides to use vesa mode.
#
# You should use dexconf or another such tool for creating a "real" xorg.conf
# For example:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

How did you install the 180.x drivers? With one of the package managers, or from the *.run file from Nvidia's website?

I used the .run, I don't remember seeing package managers...>.< that would have made the process a lot easier.....

I'm gonna try downgrading tomorrow it looks like the 180 driver is still pretty buggy.
