Hi, i have been having some problems with my graphics card lately, and now it is a bit better; i can atleast watch films. But i cant change the screen resolution, somthing fishy is def going on, i tried to change them from the menu, but it seems i only have 2 options to choose from.

I have a screen conected to my laptop, but it doesnt get any signal from the laptop so its practically dead. Here is my xorg file.

And my screens are: HP nx8220 screen 15.4 1280x800
HP w 2408h 24 monitor 1920x1200

per my understanding the list of modes in the xorg for the various sections is usually an ordered list, i.e. the one you want picked up first needs to be placed in the list first as well, making the first valid on in the list to be the one that becomes the default one.

what ubuntu & kernal version are you on. i believe that the latest version relies on auto detecting your hardware, so make sure that you can probe your hardware and get the correct results.

e.g. run the following commands and check what you get

xrandr -q
sudo ddcprobe
xdpyinfo

also try looking into /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see whats going on at startup to get a better idea of what X is doing with your displays.

I dont completely trust the 8.10 version yet, so i am sticking with 8.04.
I am a university student, if my computer dies it dies with my essays and exams so i am extremely careful ;)

Btw, screen resolutions are better now, but the graphic card uninstalled itself, i chacked system/hardware.
And when i try to enter the screen resolution manu i get this:

The X Server does not support the XRandR extension. Runtime resolution changes to the display size are not available.

ANY idea what it means?

Cheers and Thanks again
