Hi,

I have installed Ubuntu v8.10 (downloaded the iso and made CD) without any problem on my older Dell D600 laptop (1024x768 LCD).

I then went on to install it on my (also older) Dell workstation. Installation seemed to go well. However, at some point during the installation, the screen became totally garbled, and I had to abort installation because I could not respond any longer to any prompts.
The monitor is a Dell 2405FPW 24 inch (1920x1200) and the video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 6200.

Is there an install file I could edit or is there a step during installation where I can enter monitor data?

thanks,
Frans

I have the same problem as fvdhoorn.
After ~2min into the installation, the screen goes blank and the cd-drive stops.

I made a cd of Ubuntu 8.10 from the iso;

http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.10/ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent

to install on an (old) NEC VA80J.

I had no problems installing Ubuntu 6.10 this way.
