Hello and allow me to apologize in advance if posting the wrong forum.

I have installed Kubuntu and Ubuntu on external hard drives before.

Recently I purchased a USB 8 gig mini HARD DRIVE, and tried to install the Minimal Ubuntu.

My problem is, the BOOTLOADER that installs on the USB 8 gig HARD DRIVE does not boot up. 'Can't find operating system' is the error I'm getting I believe.

On previous installs, I would go into 'Advance' and change the BOOTLOADER to /dev/sda or sde. However the Minimal Ubuntu does not give me that option.

Thanks in advance for all help regarding this matter.

Just to add. Is there a way to install Ubuntu/Kubuntu from the original cd, WITHOUT installing all the programs? I'd like firefox and synaptyc, the basic things.

You don't need a minimal install. You can install the whole shebang to an 8 GB Flash Drive:

I know. I've done it. and the drivers don't work to well. it never recogonizes my nvidia card.
That's why I prefer a HARD DRIVE.

The link I gave you works with a USB HH too.
Your drivers should be no problem. I just did it with an Nvidia card
