I don't know how, since I rebooted my PC last friday, it stops booting on the message "Starting MTA agent"...

What it could be wrong?

(I use a Ubuntu 8.10 x64.)

I noticed I have the same issue with my Ubuntu 9.10 server. After locking myself out of SSH by messing with the sshd_config file, I plugged in a monitor, keyboard, and mouse into my server and noticed the lack of a prompt. The display just seems to hang at the "Starting MTA" line and a login prompt never comes up.

My workaround was to bring up one of the alternative console screens by pressing ALT-F2 (for example) and login there.
