I am trying to install 8.10 ubuntu on my X31 with USB stick created from the live CD but i am unable to boot it.
Does anyone have a similar experience?

just checking an x31--did you reset the boot order? (F1)
my machine shows an option "-usb hdd" that can be moved to
the first position. And it says "USB BIOS support must be
enabled for USB boot."

that would mean visiting IBM's website for the drivers.
