Whenever im downloading isos for various distros of linux I often run into the question of if I want to download the Amd64 verion? or i386?
Which one do I choose?
Its for a old computer with 2ghz proccesor 500mb ram.
Depending on which one I choose will it affect anything? And how do i know which one to pick?
Thanks

If your procesor accepts 64 bit; you can install either one.

Im not sure if it does? How can I find out?
If it doesnt accept 64 bit then which one do I choose?
And if it does then how do I decide between the two? Are there any differences?

Post the complete name of your processor. Or; if you have a Live CD, post:
dmesg

Personally... I've had nothing but problems using 64bit versions. I tend to recommend 32bit regardless. The advantages of the 64bit are outweighed by the conflicts and instability, IMO.
i386 will run on a 64bit machine... x86_64 / i686 won't run on a 32bit machine.
