Error in Installing Ubuntu

I made a huge error when installing Ubuntu I needed to keep my Windows XP programme and unfortunately I must have pressed in the wrong place as now I do not have access to Windows XP and it has all my data and emails etc Can anyone help as to how I can get back to Windows XP, otherwise I have lost everything. I do want to eventually transfer to Ubuntu but I am totally new and therefore still need access to all my documents etc on Windows XP Please help Ian

Did you tell the installer to use the whole harddrive when you installed Ubuntu?

What's the output of this command from a terminal?

Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal

sudo fdisk -l
That is a lower case letter L, not number 1.

Otherwise, you can try testdisk to see if you can recover your data.
