View Full Version : [ubuntu] Connecting with Thompson Speedtouch USB ADSL modem

I have installed Linux Mint 5.0 on a friend's computer.

Mint 6 won't install, Ubuntu will not install at all. So we have to work with Mint 5.0 which is really just a slightly modified version of Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.

He has a Speedtouch 330 USB modem and I want to find out what is the latest state of the art in getting these connected in Hardy?

We tried Steven Harper's usbadslmodemmanager (http://www.squeezedonkey.com/wiki/linux/index.php?title=Main_Page) but it doesn't seem to work - it loads the firmware but gets stuck after that.

I found a link to ubudsl (http://www.ubudsl.com/en/start.php) and was thinking of trying it. Has anyone had any success with this?

Another option I was thinking of trying was getting deb files for Network Manager 0.7 (the one in Intrepid 8.10) and trying that. Does the Speedthouch 300 work out of the box in 8.10? One problem with this method is possible dependency hell and also perhaps version conflicts which might completely break his system.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Only ubuDSL works and it does not save account information you have to run the configuration manager everytime. but at least its usable despite everything. :P
