Hi, I think this seems to be a fairly common problem, but it hasn't happened to me before, so bit strange. Computer went from screen saver to hibernate/suspend (not sure of the distinction). Pressed the power button which usually works, but this time it just shut down and now when I try and turn it on it starts but theres beeping and the screen stays blank. I'm guessing its returned to hibernation or something, but since there is no screen I can't figure out what to do. Any help would be great, and just for sympathy I've got to hand in my final year essay in about 8 hours cheers!

can you get to a text terminal by hitting <ctrl><alt>F1?

if not, you can still safely shut down the computer by holding down <alt><sys-request> and typing REISUB, but you may still lose any unsaved data

Thanks for a very quick reply, just noticed the lights on my keyboard are not lit, so some sort of error there..tried the commands you suggested anyway but no luck...
this doesn't seem to be getting any better ha
