Hi :)
Info:
I'm working on a DIY photoframe project and would like to know if you've had any experience with any open source software related to this kind of project (slideshow, OS...)

Hardware:
My old laptop has a broken-beyond-repair screen, so after disassembling it I want to attach it on the back of an old 17" LCD screen, and use it as a large photoframe. Many people have done similar projects (http://likelysoft.com/hacks/pictureframes.shtml) witch I found very inspiring (see the image below). Unlike the image below, I intend to remove the harddrive and cd-rom drive, and use a USB stick for the OS.

Software:
I'm a newbie in the Linux world, so I hope this is possible without writing long crazy commands in the terminal.
Okay, my current plan is to use Ubuntu Ibex, make Firefox startup automatically with a customized start page. The start page will contain a fullscreen embedded slideshow (http://paulstamatiou.com/2005/11/19/how-to-quickie-embedded-flickr-slideshows) using my flickr account photos. This will be great because I can upload images from anywhere, witch means I don't have to take the frame down, unplug the USB drive, copy the new images...(and so on). To have as few cables as possible (only power) I will of course be using a WI-FI connection.

I have been looking at Elisa, because it some very great image transition effects, but there's a lot of issues like; how to autostart the slideshow, looping the slideshow...
I've also been looking at:
FEH (http://www.linux.com/feature/55737) (Perhaps a little to hard for a newbie)
The Red Post (http://blog.theredpost.com/kit/) (It says DSL, but looks like the latest release runs Ubuntu)
