I just got a laptop that my dad used to have (I think its from 2000 or something) and its bios is really old-fashioned. The only thing it can't do is boot from a memory stick.

How can I upgrade it such that the bios lets me boot from memory stick? the laptop is a Toshiba portege (I think) (just incase. model number is p2010)

It doesn't have an internal CD drive, otherwise it would be fine.

another problem is that it can't go to suspend (standby, whatever) or hibernate. is this a problem with the hardware?
If not I can post a question elsewhere.

I am running ubuntu 8.04 32-bit
