View Full Version : [ubuntu] xorg.conf empty after 8.10 install with alternate CD

January 18th, 2009, 06:15 PM
I installed 8.10 on a system with a GigaByte G45M-DS2H motherboard
using the 'alternate' CDROM. At the end of the install procedure
the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file was created, but empty (length 0).

Booting into rescue mode and using the 'xfix' option creates
a new, this time valid xorg.conf, after that the chipset graphics
works just fine.

Starting the 'desktop' CD with either Ubuntu or Kubuntu works
fine, only installing via the 'alternate' CD seems to cause this.

Has anybody seen this behavior ?
Any help/hint is very welcome.
