Hello,
I'm very much a newbie here, and would appreciate simple instructions.
I was running Vista on my alienware m5550, video card died. Bought a replacement nVidia GeForce 8600M GS. Also decided to make the switch to Ubuntu at the same time. Now after installing 8.10 with all upgrades, and activating the nvidia driver, I get this dialog box during startup:
"Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode
The following error was encountered. You may need to update your configuration to solve this.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): ***Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have usable configuration."
This is followed with an option to run in low graphics mode which it does just fine. Any suggestions of removing this error? Thanks!
