Floating desktop with black space?

I have been using Ubuntu for about a month now and it is awesome, however after the computer has been running for about an hour or is left alone the desktop starts floating. By floating I mean when the cursor is moved to the right side of the screen the desktop shifts to the right half of the screen and a bunch of black space and gets worse every time its done. I just did a fresh install today so I don't think that will solve the problem. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so how did you fix it?

May I suggest you install "Simple CompizConfig Settings Manager" from synaptic, it has a section for "edge" settings, check that to see if it is a compiz thing. Once installed it will be in System > Preferences. :P
