How do you install Steam on Ubuntu 8.1

I have steam on my SATA 500GB but I didnt have any problems installing it with wine. When ever I put Ubuntu on a PC I always do a search for Wine in the Synaptic Package Manager then install it & anything else that the person wants on the PC. I just right click & open with Wine.

I installed wine and steam.. steam updated and everything but now when i click on steam it doesn't open

Steam should work just fine if you use the latest version of steam. You are going to have to go to www.steamhq.com for the latest version.

Steam friends will not work as a word of caution.
