Got a question. I have a friend who runs a small business that's growing somewhat. He added on a few people to help out. He'd like some sort of an open-source application to track their wages (benefits too) and having something to track expenses would be nice too.

I'm not sure, would GNUCash work? Are there other alternatives? At worst, he'll settle for something that's really cheap (under $100). Thoughts?

How is he tracking their hours? Timesheets?

Will he be manually inputting the hours they worked?

Hmm... I'd imagine that there should be some electronic time-sheet. Say: Bob (Start 8:00) (End 4:30) That'd be good to have in the app.

And yes, he'll be inputting this stuff manually. Small operation, not much resources for cad scanners or such :) .
