Its good to see there are alot of people willing to help us newbies out with Linux,Ubuntu specifically. I ordered my set of install discs from Shipit on Dec 6th and am waiting patiently. In the meantime i've been enjoying reading through a few of the threads and have been impressed by how us new people are welcomed. So just wanted to say Hello and Thanks,I'm sure i'll be asking a few questions (hopefully not dumb ones) I am going to attempt to work with a dual boot system at first(yep i'm chicken LOL) But by what i've read so far this newest release seems pretty stable so that dual boot could be short lived.I'm sure quite a few of you already know how it feels to "frisbee" Bill Gates's abomination,I'm just waiting to see that disc fly out over the landfill:smile: .......

Welcome to the forums. I dual-boot my system, its not that hard to set up, especially with all the HOW-TOs around here. Don't worry about asking questions, as there are no dumb questions (cliche, but true), as there was once a point for each of us where we knew nothing about Linux, and most of us have not forgotten that.

You dont have to wait for your CDs to arrive though, you could download the ISOs (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/download/)and start today!

Hello to all also,

I have been asked for weeks to make a first post, but so far I have been able to find all the answers I needed on this Forum. Thanks to all of you!!
For instance, today I have been trying to find out why a newly built kernel won't boot, and found that because my root partition is on LVM, Lilo needs the inird image.
But as soon as I can't find an answer, I am positive that someone here will provide it.

Hi guys..

I'm also impressed by the will to help others in this forum. A post does not go unanswered very long. I try myself to put in some free time helping people. Even with limited knowledge you can easily help people by just using:
