Hi. I am doing a dual boot install of Ubuntu 8.04 and WinXP Media Center using the ubuntu alt install cd. The WinXP is already in place. The PC is an HP Pavilion.

The install hangs at a particular point: right after the base system had ben installed, and shortly after or during the install of a software called vino.

Is there a way I can skip the installation of this particular package?

I have another pc with Ubuntu 8.04 installed. Can I build an ubuntu live install cd from my other pc and use that. Then I should be able to put in a fairly basic set of packages and complete the install.

Does that make sense at all? I welcome other suggestions.

TIA

There may have been a problem with the original iso image or a problem with the burning of the cd, especially if it was burned too fast.

If you would like to make your own custom live cd, their is a how-to in the community documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomizationFromScratch
