I would like to install UBUNTU on my second (E) hard drive to keep it segregated from my current system on the "C" drive
I have Windows XP home w/SP3 on the C drive (40Gig dr)
My E drive has Windows home XP but has a ROOT KIT VIRUS so I dont use it.
I wish to use the E drive for UBUNTU and I don't want to change the C drive at all.

I have the UBUNTU/KUNBUNTU disk from MEDIA/MOTION in the Netherlands.

Should I format the E drive ...and if i do, will I be able to load UBUNTU or KUBUNTU? Witch one and what is the differance?
What is DUEL BOOT? and why would I want to do it this way?
What is GRUB. Is there a list of these acronyms and what they do?
I have looked thru many of the "install" posts and not sure what path to follow.
Maybe I am over my head trying this....

Hi and welcome,
I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.

(1) Yes you should. Read more about the Ubuntu/Kubuntu differences in the link below.
http://www.google.co.il/search?q=ubuntu+vs+kubuntu&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.ubuntu:en-US:unofficial&client=firefox-a

(2) Dual boot is the setup you will achieve by installing Ubuntu to the second HDD.

(3) GRUB is a boot loader, and no, there is no list, sorry.

(4) Dealing with different operating system, terminology and tools may be quite intimidating in the beginning. It's not rocket science, however, so proceed in small steps and ask whenever not sure.

1) I would recommend Ubuntu because most people here use Ubuntu, so help tends to be faster. The backends are the same, but the Ubuntu desktop uses Gnome, and the Kubuntu desktop uses KDE (http://kde.org/).

2) Dual boot is where you have either two operating systems on one hard drive (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/) or on separate hard drives (http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/).

3) GRUB (http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/) starts up initially when the computer is turned on. If you have a dual boot, then it will offer you a choice of what operating system to boot into.

4) We were all in your position at one time. I would recommend running the Live CD for a bit to get used to Ubuntu (or Kubuntu, if you prefer.)
