Can you try again with a recent release? You old messages relate to an old version of Ubuntu.

Get a new cheap computer. I have a desk top that wouldn't run the demo/install Ubuntu so I bought a laptop for $500 and not only is it better then old desktop but it will run the demo of Ubuntu but I am just waiting till I upgrade to windows 7 till I create the duel boot environment.:)
