Speakers for a laptop?

The reason i bought my laptop was to be mobile and make music on the move. I wasn't quite prepared for how poor the speaker would be. Not very loud and no bass at all.

The obvious thing then is to buy some external speakers. However there is no point getting a 5.1 mains powered system - wouldn't be mobile.

Has anyone had success with USB powered speakers? Any recommendations?

Logitech V20 are some nice speakers, good sound quality, maybe a bit lacking in mids. Price point isn't too bad though: Newegg has them for around ~$50.
